The TFPD Foundation has been established to source financial support and volunteer assistance for specific projects that will positively support the rural communities that own the lodges that are managed by Transfrontier Parks Destinations (TFPD).
The beneficiary communities associated with the TFPD managed lodges are:
- The Khomani San and Mier communities of the Northern Cape who own !Xaus Lodge.
- The VaTsonga, BaHananwa, BaSotho, BaLobedu, VhaVenda are the communities that own the ten camps of the African Ivory Route in the Limpopo Province.
- The VhaVenda people in Northern Limpopo own Awelani Lodge and Eco-tourism Park near Parfuri Gate of the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park
- The BaTlokoa Community of Phuthaditjhaba who own Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge in the Maloti Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation Area
The TFPD Foundation seeks to secure financial and other support for its four pillars of involvement in rural community life:
- Source funding for adult training and development of community members in skills such as hospitality, language (English tuition), computer literacy, and various forms of guiding (wilderness, birding, 4×4 guiding)
- To provide support for job creation projects and the set-up of micro-businesses that grow the tourism industry in and around the lodges
- Provide funding or leverage support from Lodge visitors, for community projects that have a social, educational or health impact
- Raise funding on behalf of Communities for the refurbishment of their community-owned tourism properties and assets
